Welcome to my under-construction website.
I am a game designer, academic, and writer who has been working in the game industry for more than 16 years. I have created dozens and dozens of games of all kinds, from massively multiplayer online games to physical games designed for galleries and musems to card and board games. Making games is my life’s passion.
I have taught at schools like MIT, NYU, and Parsons School of Design. Teaching has helped me understand what what games are and how to create meaningful experiences for players. I’ve written about game design in books like Rules of Play, co-authored with Katie Salen, considered a standard textbook for game design.
I am the co-founder of Gamelab, a NYC-based game development studio which was in operation for nine years with a peak staff of 30. Since Gamelab closed last year, I have been teaching, consulting, and working on wide range of independent projects.
My site is still very much unfinished. For now, see a list of my games, the books I have written, courses I have taught and talks I have given, or read more information about me. If you might want to hire me, here's some information about my consulting work.
Enjoy! Be playful.

* If you are looking for information about getting into the game industry, the best resource I know is the International Game Developers Association. They have a section of their site about getting in to the industry. If you’re in the NYC area, join the NYC chapter of the IGDA. And here's a great site about game events in the New York City area.
