social card game with Marina Zurkow, 2002

Media artist Marina Zurkow and I were asked to design a game that would insert itself throughout BLUR, a conference about technology and design. Each attendee was given a handful of cards, which let you do things like tell a secret, give or take an item, or even interrupt a conversation. But every time you used a card on someone, you had to give that person the card, so cards circulated througout the social and physical space of the event.

Players became more and more bold, and began interrupting speakers during their conference presentations, leading to angry debates about where the boundaries of the game should be located. In other words, it was a smashing success.
